Hi,

Good news, have decided to save the Quincy Adams.  I have a bill of sale and am trying to get a title for the boat. (In R.I. you need a title) Hopefully it will be shipped to my place in the next few weeks.  Oh, the boat is an Adams Interclub, designed by William Goeller.  Nine were built, this one is Hull number 2, built in 1937.  I have previously owned its sister ship.  These are the last two.  Thank you for all your help, this is a great site.

Hello,

The Adams interclub named “Adamant”  that I previously owned was sailed out of Mast Head Marina in East Greenwich Rhode Island.  I bought the boat in 1980 and sailed it until 1984.  This was the year that I had to reframe the boat.   It then sat for 10 years in my back yard, then I sold it to a friend of mine.  The fellow that I purchased the boat from told me it was a 1937 Adams Interclub built in Quincy Mass.  It has the number 36 on the sail, but someone previously told me that only nine were built.  Adamant however did not have a cabin on it.  It did have its original wood mast and was a great sailing boat.  I did hear a rumor that there was another down by Mystic, but did not think much of it until now.

I have, over the past few years restored a few boats.  My father in law and I restored a 1956 Webbers cove lobster yacht.  It is a 40’ Downeast style boat built up in Maine.  After that my son and I restored a 12’ working Whitehall, followed by a 1952 36’ six meter class sloop that my son owned.  I have just sold all of the boats and was in the market for a new one.  I had not intended to restore another boat but then I came across the wooden boat rescue foundation.  I saw Lazy Liz listed as a Quincy Adams and I knew it was an interclub.  After looking at it, and speaking with my son, we decided to give it a go and restore it.   My other boat that I sold is in the spot that the Adams will go, all I have to do know is wait for good weather.

Hello,

I finally got the Adams interclub to my house a couple of weeks ago.  The restoration is coming along. Now, I am ready to start bending frames in.  I attached a few photos.

Thanks,

Hi Bruce,

I attached a picture of the progress on the Adams.  As of now, May 12, we have replaced all 72 frames, and 19 floors.  I had to take off three planks to get the fames in.  Now I am working on making a new transom, and new deck beams.  Hopefully this weekend I will separate the dead wood from the keelson to bolt the floors to the keelson.

P.S.  You don’t mind me sending you updated pics now an then do you?

Hi,

I just finished fairing the hull and started making the cabin.  Things are moving along, and an expected launch date late next month.

Hi Bruce,

Here are some pictures of the progress.  I have finished making the cabin and raised panel doors that go along with it.  All of the wood is Mahogany, nothing is old except a few pieces, with exception of 18 planks the whole boat is new.  The seats and floorboards have also been fit.  The cabin top has two layers of 5 oz glass along with a layer of dynel on top. (the same as the deck).  It seems we are in the home stretch, putting on hardware and making the toe and rub rails.  On the bronze piece on the rudder I found the hull number of the boat, it is the second Adams Interclub built.  The previous Adams Interclub that I owned did not have a number so I think it could have been the first one.
All of the seams have been caulked, red lead paint and interlux seam compound were put over them.  The previous owner dropped off the sails, but they are in tough shape, so I decided to have a new set made.
It won't be long before she is in the water.

Hi Bruce,

Well, here she looks one week before the launch.  Everything has been painted, and all of the hardware is on.  As you can see, we put toe rails and rub rails (made from teak) on.   The last bit to do is the varnish.  I will put five coats of Z-spar flagship varnish on.  Launch date is scheduled for next Saturday. I will probably wait a week or so before I sail it, to let the boat swell, and due to the lack of sails.  They are on order at the sailmakers.

Pictures of the launch August 6, 2005.  Pleasant Street Warf, Wickford Rohde Island.

We launched it here, and then sailed it (drifted really, no wind) over to or mooring at East Ferry, Jamestown Rhode Island.
