Bruce-
Sorry for the delay on the restoration journal entry but I don't have a
digital camera so I had to have my girlfriend scan in some of the photos
that I took. Well a lot has happened sense my last entry. A further look
at the keel made it pretty clear that it needs replacing, the checks gave
way to rot the further forward and aft I looked so the hunt for a suitable
timber got underway. I was able to purchase the keel timber as well as
enough wood to replace the Stern and dead wood (all white oak) thanks to
Duke over at New England Navel Timbers in ct. and I hauled them back with
a U-Haul. I have so far removed and replaced the transom knee, and floor
boards that lie on it, as well as the frame ends that attach to them
(which I had to prebend to shape, it makes more work but because I am
working alone it is a lot easier than trying to wrestle a hot frame and
clamp it in place all by ones self). While I was waiting for the
necessary wood for the back bone I continued to work on the smaller
details and made a new hatch cover, cabin doors, some blocks, a tiller,
and refinishing of the winches (including 2 new ones I acquired from the
same era) and started on the head. I am still searching, so far in vain,
for a mast that would fit her, the plans call for it to be 45' from seer
to top with a dia. of 6 3/4" at the deck. if you or anyone else out there
has any leads on anything similar I would greatly appreciate any help. I
would, at this time, also like to thank Mrs. Atkin for her help with a
full set to the original plans at half price, they are very helpful
