Back at it after a long 9 months traveling and running my business. I will use a few days off to work on Katarina. Everyone involved on restoring Katarina have been off the job for much of the last 6 months.
Wade Smith has done one more plank in between
teaching classes. Rick is a new member of the team and works with Wade
at the Seaport. Rick is a recent graduate of the Apprenticeshop in
Maine.. He will be
completing what portions of the deck, hatches, cabin top and bulwarks I do not
do; this is all in trade for a boat I
had. Wade also started fitting the new shearstrake which needed to be
replaced after removing the old covering boards and finding rot near some of
the stanchon fastenings.

I removed the aft bulkhead to make room for pilot berths and the larger 68hp Perkins. This also opened up the stern areas considerable and will allow room to work on stern framing, aft floor timbers and the transom.
I removed forward anchor/chain bulkhead; this was a substantial affair and not easy to remove. With this bulkhead pushed forward a foot or two there will be more room forward for a longer double birth, head and shower. There is still plenty of room for all anchor accessories.

Lifted and tried to remove Sampson Post, but hoop shed is too close to deck to allow it to clear deck for removal. Windlass will be removed and moved to make room for trice-able bowsprit which will run to the starboard side of the Sampson post.
Dropped cockpit today. The new
engine is too large to fit into the boat by any other means.
Unfortunately the cockpit was fairly sound, but had to be destroyed to get it out of
the boat.
