Restoration Log, Masuyo
This boat and story need an intro of sorts. Masuyo was actually the one that made me start WBRF. In the fall of 03 I was taking a wooden Boat restoration class with Walt Ansel and Wade Smith. During this time Walt encountered a "double-ender Norwegian looking thing." He mentioned it to me thinking I could part it out to get goods for my restoration of Katarina. Well I went and look at her in NJ. What I saw was a boat 1/3 way into restoration, she really was a hull and nothing more. Stripped of paint and all deck, cabin, hardware, etc off. She was in good shape and was clearly savable. I left thinking I could not part her out. I also left with an odd feeling I could not place. It seemed the dark reassesses of my mind were sparked into motion...I KNEW THIS BOAT!!!
Driving home I reflected on her. Her windless (off her and covered in a dusty corner of the building), was odd. What was it that I remember? She was built in Scotland, but look like an Archer. What was it, Deja veu?
Two evenings later I woke literality straight out of s a deep sleep with the answer. I had seen a picture of her in a small book titles "The Guide to Wooden Boats" by Maynard Bray. I jumped out of bed and spent the next hour looking for the book. And finally ,my suffering over, I found her on page 72. How I recognized her to this day I do not know. With the help of Google and the telephone I tracked down the last know owner before the current one. He turned out top be a former editor of Wooden Boat Magazine. He was delighted to know she was around and had lost track of her during the step step step of life. He wanted her back!!! What a feeling. As trivial as it sounds it was a high to have figured it out and save a boat and make someone happy. She was moved to Brooklin Maine were she is now undergoing a continuation of her restoration.
The End
NOTE: I have pix of when I found her---I just need to find them. Hold tight and they will be here at the top ASAP!

Bruce,
Here are some pictures of the new stem I put in Masuyo. My shed is not much
bigger then the boat so all the pictures are close-ups. Sorry it took so
long. Did you have any luck getting sail and rigging from the last owner? I
can go get them myself. I would like to round that stuff up in the next
few months. Thanks for all the help. I'll send more pictures as I progress.
