Oselvars

Pagan

History:

Build by the Apprenticeshop in 1978.  Subject of book, "Norse Boat Building in North America".  This boat was built by students under the tutelage of  Paul Schweiss.

She is currently in the stewardship of Bruce Elfstrom and makes her home on the coast of Maine, in and around Deer Isle.  She has been in the last two Small Reach Regattas.

Details:

Year: 1978

Builder: Paul Schweiss,

Length:  19'6"

Beam: 64"

Rig:  Sprit main, jib head.

Wood Species: Oak keel, pine and cedar planks.

Fasteners:  Copper rivets, bronze screws at ends

Notes:  This boat was built as an Oselvar, but on reflection it was determined it did not really fit the type well and there were some mistakes.  The mistakes were fixed, but the general shape and its lacking one beam (forward) makes it a loose Os boat.  However, she sails as well or better than other Os Faerings due to her dish like form and beam.  This boat has planned at over 9 knots.
